SUGAR LAND, Texas (TXAN 24) — The Round Rock Express powered their way to a doubleheader sweep over the Sugar Land Space Cowboys on Thursday, combining patience at the plate and timely hitting to take both games at Constellation Field.
Round Rock opened the day with a 5-3 win in a suspended contest resumed from earlier in the week. The Express overcame early deficits with RBI hits from Cam Cauley, Michael Helman, and Justin Foscue, before breaking through in extra innings. Aaron Zavala and Jonah Bride helped spark the decisive eighth inning as Round Rock used aggressive baserunning and situational hitting to secure Game 1.
In the nightcap, the Express offense erupted for a season-high seven runs in the third inning alone, setting the tone for a 12-5 victory. Zavala launched a solo home run, while Helman, Richie Martin, and Bride each delivered key RBI hits. Dairon Blanco added a two-run double as Round Rock built a commanding early lead and never looked back.
Sugar Land responded with a brief rally in the fourth inning and added late solo power, but the Express offense answered with continued pressure, including a two-run blast from Cauley in the seventh.
Across both games, Round Rock drew an impressive 21 walks, showcasing disciplined at-bats throughout the doubleheader. The sweep moves the Express to 6-2 over their last eight games as they continue their series Friday night back in Sugar Land.
