DALLAS, Texas (TXAN 24) — A job-matching app founded by a Hawaii entrepreneur is gaining traction in Texas, where the company says approximately 30% of its registered users are located.

ShiftPass, launched by Jessica Cockrell at age 50 from Hilo, Hawaii, connects workers and employers through a platform designed to make hiring more direct. The company completed its full launch in May 2026 and says it has since expanded its reach nationwide.

Cockrell describes the platform as a dating app for jobs, allowing workers and employers to connect and communicate about qualifications, availability, schedules and potential employment opportunities.

According to Cockrell, most of the platform’s Texas users are concentrated in the San Antonio and Austin areas. The company serves a range of industries, including hospitality, retail, skilled trades, administrative work and oilfield-related positions.

ShiftPass is designed to support people seeking part-time employment, individual shifts or full-time career opportunities. The company says it is not a staffing agency; employers hire workers directly and remain responsible for their standard screening, safety and onboarding procedures.

Affordability is central to the platform’s business model. ShiftPass says its service remains free for job seekers, while its approach aims to give employers an additional hiring resource.

Cockrell also says the company has begun working with Texas schools to introduce the platform as an employment resource for students preparing to enter the workforce.

The company is growing without outside investors, according to Cockrell, who also co-owns an electrical contracting business and leads a nonprofit in Hawaii.
