ROUND ROCK, Texas (TXAN 24) — The Round Rock Express dropped their series opener Tuesday night, falling 7-3 to the Oklahoma City Comets at Dell Diamond.
Oklahoma City wasted no time taking control, exploding for five runs in the first inning. Ryan Ward sparked the surge with a two-run homer before Jack Suwinski added a three-run blast, giving the Comets an early 5-0 lead.
Round Rock responded in the second inning. Nick Pratto delivered a bright spot, launching his first home run of the season in his return to Dell Diamond, cutting the deficit to 6-3 after a three-run frame.
However, the Express offense stalled the rest of the way, managing just four hits over the final six innings while striking out 13 times. Oklahoma City added an insurance run in the fifth after Nick Senzel drew a bases-loaded walk.
Right-hander Ben Anderson took the loss for Round Rock, allowing six runs over three innings in his second Triple-A start. Meanwhile, the Comets’ pitching staff held the Express lineup in check to secure the win.
With the loss, Round Rock falls to 12-16 on the season and 5-8 at home. The Express will look to bounce back as the series continues Wednesday night in Round Rock.
