ARLINGTON, Texas (TXAN 24) — In a hard-fought UIL Class 5A Division II State Championship game, Dallas South Oak Cliff claimed the title with a 35-19 victory over Richmond Randle at AT&T Stadium on Saturday morning.
From the opening kickoff, South Oak Cliff established its identity on both sides of the ball, mixing efficient passing with a punishing ground attack that Richmond simply could not contain.
Senior #6 Jayden Williams set the tone early, leading a precise aerial attack by completing 12 of 13 passes for 89 yards and a touchdown, slicing up the Randle secondary and keeping drives alive throughout the game.
On the ground, senior #2 Mikail Trotter set fire to the turf with a relentless performance, finishing with 143 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns. He was joined in the rushing attack by senior #32 Rakim Davis, whose tough, north-south runs helped wear down the Randle defense.
Sophomore #15 Brenden Freeney added balance to the offense and closed the game with a series of strategic clock-killing kneel downs that sealed the victory.
Richmond Randle answered early with a balanced offense led by 19 #Tyler Skrabanek, who finished 16 of 24 for 143 yards, and 3 #Cedrick McClintock, who hauled in 4 catches for 50 yards.
After South Oak Cliff opened up a lead, Randle fought back with timely conversions and a couple of explosive plays to keep the contest within reach heading into the fourth quarter.
Despite the small margin at times, the SOC defense, anchored by seniors #1 Marcell Gipson Jr. and #5 Rickey Giles — delivered key stops on crucial downs to thwart multiple Randle scoring opportunities.
With the clock winding down and SOC clinging to a two-score lead, Freeney executed three clean kneel downs, rom the Randle 46, 45, and 43 yards, to end the game and secure a 35-19 win.
