East Texas A&M Volleyball Falls To North Texas After Taking First Two Sets

DENTON, Texas (TXAN 24) — East Texas A&M volleyball built a two-set lead Saturday but could not close out North Texas, falling 3-2 at the UNT Volleyball Center.


The Lions won the opening two sets 25-20 and 25-22 before North Texas rallied to take the final three sets 25-18, 25-10 and 15-9.


Ariana Brown finished with 10 kills, 11 digs and two service aces, extending her streak of matches with at least 10 kills to 13.


Haley Mullaney added 19 assists, 10 digs and a career-high six service aces. She was also named to the UNT Invitational All-Tournament Team.


Jade Washington led East Texas A&M with 16 digs, while Sediong Scott recorded five blocks, including two solo blocks.


The Lions finished with 12 service aces as a team. Katelyn Pritchard posted a career-best 12 assists, while Sabine Wenzel recorded at least three blocks for the 12th consecutive match.


East Texas A&M fell to 6-7 overall and has lost six of its last seven matches. North Texas improved to 7-4.


The match marked the final non-conference contest for both teams.


East Texas A&M opens Southland Conference play Thursday at UIW in San Antonio. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
