DALLAS, Texas (TXAN 24) — Garages of America is mourning the death of co-founder Jack Griffin, who died Sunday in a car accident near Gunter, Texas.

Griffin was a longtime commercial real estate developer, accomplished tennis player, endurance racer, automotive collector and prominent member of North Texas’ automotive enthusiast community.

A standout tennis player at Baylor University, Griffin later built a career in commercial real estate, including work with Trammell Crow. His passion for automobiles eventually led to a racing career that included appearances at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Sebring, Daytona and the Miami Grand Prix.

In 2012, Griffin and Fred Gans co-founded Garages of Texas, now known as Garages of America. Griffin’s automotive knowledge and relationships within the collector community helped shape the company and its luxury garage communities.

“Jack was much more than our co-founder. He was our partner, our friend and the heart of the automotive community we set out to create,” Gans said.

The company has since grown from its first luxury garage community in Plano to 14 communities across Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin and Houston.

Griffin also held several leadership positions with the Maverick Region of the Porsche Club of America.

Friends will gather Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 6:30 p.m. at Garages of America Carrollton, 2323 Tarpley Road. The gathering is open to everyone.

Griffin is survived by three sons and eight grandchildren, all living in the Dallas area.
