BI-DISTRICT CHAMPS: Bearettes advance Lady Bulldogs at UT Tyler 47-41

TYLER, Texas (TXAN 24) - On Monday night the Chapel Hill Lady Bulldogs took on the Bearettes of Brownsboro at UT Tyler, in an all-out battle, for the bi-district round of the UIL Girl's Basketball Playoffs.

The Lady Bulldogs represented the home team on the scoreboard, in fan presence and in reality with their school campus only 4 miles away from the playoff site. They used this to their advantage early winning the tip-off and jumping out to a quick lead as Brownsboro suffered from untimely misses and mistakes.

The Bearettes did quickly gain their bearings and made a run of their own, to tie the game up in the first period at 9 points a piece. Ayana Gardner and Parmer Fitzgerald both put on a show in the first quarter with a late jumpshot from Gardner extending the lead to 4 points; as it came to a close.

The second period kicked off with a score of 13-9 until 3-point attempt from the Lady Bulldogs banked in off the glass and went in pushing the lead to 7-points. A sense of urgency overcame the Bearettes as they immediately kick their defense into full court pressure and began forcing turnovers. The only problem was that they were not able to capitalize on the good looks they manufactured and remained behind on the scoreboard.

The teams uncharacteristic mistakes from both teams kept them fairly even with one another. The Lady Bulldogs maintained a 6 point lead going into the halftime break.

In the second half the game’s intensity went to a different level and the Bearettes were the ones in control of the momentum in the game and eventually captured the lead for the first time in the contest and never let it go.
