NACOGDOCHES, Texas (TXAN 24) — Stephen F. Austin held off Incarnate Word by two points Saturday as the Lumberjacks kept their strong start to the season intact.

SFA entered the matchup ranked No. 5/7 and was looking to improve to 6-0 for the first time since 1995. The Lumberjacks and Cardinals battled throughout the contest, with SFA making enough plays late to preserve the narrow victory.

The win also marked SFA’s 16th consecutive victory over UIW, continuing the Lumberjacks’ recent dominance in the series.

With Southland Conference play resuming, SFA now turns its attention to the next challenge as it looks to maintain its position near the top of the league standings.

The Lumberjacks have quickly established themselves as one of the conference’s teams to watch this season, and Saturday’s two-point decision showed just how competitive the matchup with UIW can be.

For SFA, the narrow win keeps its unbeaten start alive and provides another test of the team’s ability to close out tight games.
