WILLS POINT, Texas (TXAN 24) - On Friday night in the small town of Wills Point two big time girls basketball teams squared off for an Area Championship in what was a physical battle for all four quarters, and even needed extra time to decide a winner. The designated away team's fans, Tyler Legacy, turned out in the hundreds and brought the school band and cheer leaders to give their team a "home field" advantage.

In the first period Pineywood MVP Armani Walker was not in the starting line-up, but made an immediate impact when she touched the floor. Cedar Hill, the designated home team, presented a balanced approach on the offensive front; both guards and forwards attacking the bucket from all angles.

Cedar Hill enjoyed a narrow lead to end the first quarter, but Tyler Legacy was not going anywhere in the second. The Lady Red Raiders were able to find timely three pointers, paired with defensive plays turned fast break points. These sort of plays not only helped to erase the deficit they faced, it turned into a four point lead that Walker and her team carried into the half time break.
Coming out of the break, these teams continued the physical play—battling for every possession. From the beginning of the second half it was apparent that this game was going to come down to the last possession.
As the game came down to the wire Armani Walker and Zareya Ceasar put the Lady Red Raiders on their backs and carried them to a tie score with the final possession resting in their hands.
Walker’s game winning attempt went in-and-out and this game headed to overtime.
In a quick, action packed, overtime the two teams found themselves tied once again with Tyler having a chance at a game winning shot.
The Lady Red Raiders could not manage to get off an attempt and the game went to its second overtime period—where the Cedar Hill Longhorns seized the moment and edge out a lead to end the game as Area Champions.
Final Score:
Double Overtime
Cedar Hill - 73
Tyler Legacy - 69
