Ennis Junior High School Builds Student Leadership Through Leadership Program

ENNIS, Texas (TXAN 24) — Ennis Junior High School is finding creative ways to help students develop leadership skills, build confidence and understand the importance of character through a program that encourages boys and girls to dress like leaders on designated days, including game days.
Led by Principal Roynal Bridgeforth, the initiative goes beyond clothing. It is designed to help students see themselves as leaders while developing the personal qualities that can shape their decisions, relationships and futures.
By encouraging students to present themselves with confidence and purpose, the program reinforces the idea that leadership begins with how individuals carry themselves, treat others and work together toward common goals.
Bridgeforth said the school wants to establish a foundation of leadership that students can carry with them both inside and outside the classroom.
“What we are trying to do is build some leadership structure within our kids. We want to teach integrity, we want to teach leadership, we want to teach care and we want to teach teamwork,” Bridgeforth said.
Those values are central to helping young people recognize their potential and understand their responsibilities to their peers and their community.
For junior high students, developing self-confidence and positive habits during these formative years can help prepare them for future academic, extracurricular and personal challenges.
The initiative reflects a broader commitment to making character development part of the school experience, giving students opportunities to practice leadership rather than simply hear about it.
At Ennis Junior High School, the message is clear: leadership is not just about a title. It is about integrity, confidence, caring for others and working together.
