DALLAS, Texas (TXAN 24) — Texas has produced 179 Powerball winning tickets worth at least $1 million since October 2015, but the state ranks just 27th nationally when those wins are measured against population.

A new CSGOGem study examined 1,420 drawings through October 14, 2026, counting jackpot, Match 5 and Match 5 with Power Play winning tickets across the 45 states that sell Powerball.

Texas recorded 0.56 winning tickets of $1 million or more per 100,000 residents. The total includes two jackpot-winning tickets.

New Hampshire topped the ranking with 1.77 major winning tickets per 100,000 residents, followed by New Jersey and West Virginia. Florida ranked eighth, while New York tied for ninth.

The study also examined number frequencies. The white ball 13 appeared 77 times during the period, fewer than any other white ball, while 21 appeared most often at 127 times.

Those historical frequencies do not improve or reduce the odds of a future drawing. Each Powerball drawing is independent, and every valid number combination has the same probability.

With Friday the 13th approaching in November, the study offers a timely look at lottery superstitions — but not a winning formula.
