TYLER, Texas (TXAN 24) — In Texas, people can legally use force to protect themselves when they reasonably believe it’s immediately necessary to stop unlawful force against them.
The state’s “Castle Doctrine” lets you defend your home, vehicle, or workplace without a duty to retreat, and “Stand Your Ground” applies when you’re lawfully present elsewhere and not engaged in criminal activity.
Force used must be reasonable and proportionate to the threat.
