ROUND ROCK, Texas (TXAN 24) — The Round Rock Express were held hitless through the first six innings Tuesday afternoon as the Sacramento River Cats cruised to a 9-2 win at Dell Diamond.
Sacramento jumped ahead early in the first inning and extended its lead with a three-run sixth inning to take control. The River Cats added four more runs in the seventh, highlighted by home runs from Osleivis Basabe and Victor Bericoto.
Round Rock finally broke up the no-hit bid in the seventh inning when designated hitter Jonah Bride singled. The Express managed just two hits in the loss, tying a season low offensively.
Express starter Austin Gomber allowed four runs over 5.1 innings while striking out three. Rehab assignment reliever Chris Martin made his first appearance since April 14 but surrendered four earned runs in two-thirds of an inning.
Despite the loss, Michael Helman continued his strong May stretch by drawing a bases-loaded walk for an RBI. Cam Cauley also reached base frequently with a career-high four walks.
The Express have now lost nine of their last 11 games and fell to 15-25 overall on the season. Round Rock and Sacramento continue the series Wednesday night at Dell Diamond with first pitch set for 6:45 p.m. CT.
