TYLER, Texas (TXAN 24) — What began as local outrage has escalated into a nationwide movement. While some are calling it “LA Riots 2.0,” this moment is no longer confined to one city. Demonstrations are unfolding coast to coast as communities respond to a series of fatal federal law-enforcement shootings.
This weekend alone, more than 1,000 “ICE Out For Good” protests and vigils are taking place across the United States.
What’s driving the unrest:
• The Catalyst: The fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old mother and U.S. citizen in Minneapolis, along with two additional federal-involved shootings in Portland, has ignited national outrage.
• Rapid Expansion: Protests are no longer limited to major coastal cities. Large crowds have emerged in Texas, Ohio, Florida, and other states, demanding accountability amid reports of 16+ federal officer-involved shootings tied to recent enforcement operations.
• State vs. Federal Tensions: Governors and local leaders are increasingly clashing with federal authorities over the deployment of agents and control of investigations.
• Conditions on the Ground: While many gatherings began as peaceful vigils, several cities have seen escalations near federal buildings, road closures, and heightened law-enforcement presence.
This is no longer a single incident, it’s a national happenstance. Communities are signaling they will not remain silent about the human cost tied to federal operations.
SAFETY NOTICE:
If you are in or near high-activity zones, especially around downtown areas or federal facilities, monitor local curfews and road closures. Stay alert, document responsibly, and know your rights.
TXAN 24 News will be tracking developments nationwide.
