ROUND ROCK, Texas (TXAN 24)— A familiar name to Texas baseball fans is set to be honored this summer. Former infielder/outfielder Matt Kata, who spent part of his Major League career with the Texas Rangers, has been selected for induction into the Round Rock Express Hall of Fame.

Kata becomes the 11th member of the franchise’s Hall of Fame following a selection process conducted by the club’s committee. He will be officially honored during a pregame ceremony on August 14 at Dell Diamond, ahead of Round Rock’s matchup against the Sugar Land Space Cowboys.

Kata played for the Express from 2009 to 2012 and remains one of the most versatile and productive players in team history. Since Round Rock became a Triple-A franchise in 2005, he ranks second in games played (413) and third in plate appearances (1,672). He also sits among the franchise’s top performers in hits, doubles, and RBIs.

During his time in Texas, Kata also suited up for the Texas Rangers at the Major League level in 2007, adding to a career that spanned five MLB teams.

His most notable season with Round Rock came in 2011, when he hit .293 with 13 home runs and 71 RBIs, helping lead the Express to a Pacific Coast League Southern Division title and a then franchise-record 87 wins.

The Round Rock Express, the Triple-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, continue their current homestand at Dell Diamond this week.
