Mavericks, Stars Reach Agreement to Remain at American Airlines Center Through 2031

DALLAS, Texas (TXAN 24) — The Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Stars have reached an agreement that resolves their long-running legal dispute over American Airlines Center, ensuring both teams will remain at the downtown Dallas arena through the 2030-31 season.

The two franchises announced Monday that they had settled the outstanding matters between their organizations following a legal battle that began last year.

The dispute centered on control and management of the American Airlines Center, along with disagreements over arena improvements and the teams’ long-term plans.

The Mavericks had accused the Stars of obstructing proposed upgrades to the arena and challenged the Stars’ position involving the facility’s operating structure. The Stars pushed back against those claims as tensions between the two longtime arena partners escalated.

A Texas Business Court ruling in June gave the Mavericks control of the arena’s operating company, adding another major development to the dispute.

Despite the legal battle, both franchises will continue calling American Airlines Center home through the 2030-31 season. The current lease is scheduled to expire in 2031.

The agreement does not necessarily mean either team will remain at the arena beyond that point. Both organizations have been pursuing plans for potential new facilities, with the Mavericks exploring a new arena in North Dallas and the Stars advancing plans for a proposed arena in Plano.

For now, however, Dallas sports fans can expect the Mavericks and Stars to remain together under the same roof for the next several seasons.

The agreement brings an end to one of the most significant arena disputes in recent Dallas sports history while providing greater certainty for the future of American Airlines Center.
