ARLINGTON, Texas (TXAN 24) — The Dallas Wings played their 2026 WNBA Season home opener in front of a sold out crowd tonight, as they hosted the Atlanta Dream in a key early-season WNBA match-up at College Park Center.
Dallas entered the night continuing to lean on its young core while looking for consistency on both ends of the floor. The Wings have shown flashes offensively this season with strong transition play and perimeter shooting, but limiting turnovers and defensive lapses would remain major points of emphasis heading into tonight’s contest.
Atlanta arrived with one of the more physical lineups in the league and looked to test Dallas inside the paint. The Dream relied heavily on aggressive rebounding and half-court defense in the first game of the season, creating problems for the Minnesota Lynx offensively, in the their 91-90 win.
The Dream opened the game aggressively as Angel Reese scored the first basket and delivered an emphatic block on Sims in the opening moments. Atlanta played without 2026 first overall pick Azzi Fudd, who was sidelined with a knee injury.
Dallas found early rhythm from beyond the arc, using the three-point shot to build momentum through the first half. The Wings were able to create separation during stretches of the second quarter, but Atlanta stayed within striking distance by attacking the paint and capitalizing on second-chance opportunities.
Coming out of halftime, the Dream immediately shifted momentum with a 7-2 run to take the lead. Atlanta controlled much of the third quarter behind timely scoring from Allisha Gray who ened with 26 points and strong rebounding from Reese who collected 16 to notch a double-double.
Arike Ogunbowale led the Wings in scoring with 20 points, while Odyssey Sims contributed with key playmaking and 4 assists.
The Wings offense struggled late as the Dream defense tightened down the stretch, holding Dallas well below their offensive output from the season opener to secure the 77-72 victory.
