DALLAS, Texas (TXAN 24) - On Thursday night, two potential WNBA Playoff teams who were trending in two completely different directions, met for a chance to claim the season series at American Airlines. The Dallas Wings, who hold the 8th seed in the current WNBA Playoff Standings, have a record of 3-7 in their last 10 games; while the Indiana Fever were on fire winning all of their last 5 games for a record of 8-2 in their last 10 games.
The arena was buzzing with fans long before tip-off for a matchup between two of the most popular players in the WNBA in Paige Bueckers and Caitlin Clark, but the bulk of the early scoring was done from elsewhere.
The Dallas Wings came out the gate with energy behind the buckets of Jessica Shepard, who put up over 20 points in the first half. On the opposite end of the floor Kelsey Mitchell had a 20 points first half effort as well. Paige Bueckers and Caitlin Clark combined for just 10 points in the first half. The teams went into the locker rooms with the score tied at 42.
In the second half Arike Ogunbowale erupted for the Dallas Wings, ending with 32 points, to combat the heroic from Kelsey Mitchell who ended the contest with a game high 37 points. Even though the game's headliners, Clark and Bueckers, had a below typical night, the game was highly competitive and elicited cheers and jeers from the American Airlines Center crowd for four quarters.
Final Score:
Dallas Wings - 91
Indiana Fever - 85
