ARLINGTON, Texas (TXAN 24) - The Dallas Wings were supposed to be hitting their stride. Instead, with the playoffs approaching, the Wings are searching for answers after dropping five of their last six games.
At 19-14, Dallas remains in playoff position and has already taken a massive step forward from last season. But the timing of this slide raises legitimate questions about whether the Wings are entering the postseason healthy, confident and playing their best basketball.
The biggest issue may be fatigue.
Dallas has been pushed through a demanding stretch of the schedule, including six games in 12 days, and the team has also been dealing with an injury bug that has disrupted its rotation. Rookie standout Azzi Fudd recently missed games with right knee soreness, while Jessica Shepard suffered an ankle injury against Minnesota. Alysha Clark has also dealt with a back injury.
Dallas struggled offensively in a 94-76 loss to Golden State before falling 103-90 to Minnesota. Against the Valkyries, the Wings shot poorly and struggled to keep pace as Golden State pulled away.
The Wings are 19-14 after winning just 10 games in 2025, making this season a clear step forward for a franchise that entered the year with legitimate playoff expectations. The expectation was for Dallas to become a playoff team, and with the postseason now within reach, the Wings may accomplish that goal by the slimmest of margins. Sitting eighth in the playoff race, every remaining game carries significantly more weight.
The question now is whether this is simply a tired team navigating injuries—or a team beginning to run out of gas at the exact moment it needs to find another gear.
Dallas returns home Wednesday against the Toronto Tempo with an opportunity to stop the slide and at this point in the season, the Wings don't necessarily need to look spectacular.
They just need to start looking like themselves again.
