ARLINGTON, Texas (TXAN 24) - The Dallas Wings were back in Arlington on Wednesday night to host a Toronto Tempo team that was on a nine-game losing streak. As a ten-point favorites, the Dallas Wings were also looking to end their own three-game losing streak, falling into a rough patch at the worst possible time as playoff near, with a record of 1-5 in the last six games.
Just a matter of weeks ago the Dallas Wings were in position to claim home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs; now the wings would be the last team in the playoffs if it began today. To add to the equation, 3-Point Champion and Top Pick Azzi Fudd would be out, along with All-Star Jessica Shepard
The game tipped off with Toronto taking possession, but the Dallas Wings would come out the gates with the momentum on their side, forcing a timeout by the Tempo at the 5:15 mark in the first quarter with the score 14-8.
Toronto weathered the initial push from the Wings, but Dallas responded and finished the first period with a double-digit lead; with the Dallas crowd creating a home advantage. The second quarter began with a score of 27-17 and by halftime, the score was 45-37 as the Dallas Wings were able to keep the Tempo at bay.
This was the story of the night, the Dallas Wings in control but the Tempo never truly 'going away' as the final score was 94-88. The question is whether Dallas can get healthy and gain some momentum heading into playoffs. Dallas will return to American Airlines on August 20 to host the Indiana Fever.
