AUSTIN, Texas (TXAN 24) — The District Assignment Appeals Committee of the University Interscholastic League will meet Monday morning to hear reclassification and realignment appeals following the release of its latest biennial district alignments.

The meeting is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on February 23 at the Austin Marriott North in Round Rock.

Earlier this month, the UIL released its updated reclassification and realignment data, outlining new district and conference assignments for schools across Texas. After that announcement, campuses were given a window to formally appeal their placements.

Among the schools scheduled to appear before the committee is Cumberland Academy.

Cumberland Academy is requesting to be moved down to Class 3A. The appeal specifically impacts the school’s volleyball and boys basketball programs.

Reclassification decisions can significantly affect travel distances, competitive balance, and postseason pathways. Schools often cite enrollment figures, competitive equity, and geographic considerations when seeking adjustments.

The Appeals Committee will hear arguments from each campus before rendering decisions, which are typically finalized the same day.

The outcome of Monday’s hearing will determine where Cumberland Academy competes for the upcoming UIL cycle.

TXAN 24 News will continue to monitor the appeal and provide updates as decisions are announced.
