FORT WORTH, Texas (TXAN 24) — American Airlines announced Tuesday it will begin installing Starlink high-speed satellite internet across more than 500 narrowbody aircraft starting in the first quarter of 2027.

The move marks one of the airline’s largest inflight connectivity upgrades to date and will include Airbus aircraft already in service along with new A321XLR and A321neo deliveries.

According to the airline, Starlink’s low Earth orbit satellite network is designed to provide broadband-level internet speeds capable of supporting streaming, online gaming, virtual meetings and real-time communication during flights.

“As a premium global airline, we are continuously seeking out world-class partners like Starlink to deliver what our customers need and want,” said American Airlines Chief Customer Officer Heather Garboden.

American said the upgraded Wi-Fi experience will be available on domestic and short-haul international routes, allowing passengers to stream content, browse online and access collaboration tools with reduced lag time.

SpaceX Vice President of Starlink Enterprise Sales Jason Fritch said the partnership is aimed at creating a “fully connected experience gate to gate” for both passengers and crew.

The airline has not yet announced pricing or whether the service will be complimentary for travelers.
