3 Tyler High Lions chose to stay in Tyler for College Football

TYLER, Texas (TXAN 24) — Three standout athletes from Tyler High School are continuing their football careers in East Texas, staying local as they take their talents to respected collegiate programs.
Caiden Drummer - Texas College:
A dynamic defensive back and running back for Tyler High, will continue his athletic career at Texas College. Drummer made a name for himself in the 2024 season with 12 rushing attempts for 84 yards and one touchdown, along with an impressive 609 yards on special teams, including four punt returns for 69 yards and 22 kickoff returns for 540 yards. Defensively, he recorded 10 tackles, three pass breakups, and one interception. His exceptional all-around play earned him Second Team All-District (7-5A DI) honors. Tyler High Assistant Coach Phillip Callier praises Drummer as a fierce competitor who is ready to take on new challenges at Texas College, where he will bring his versatility and drive to the next level.
D’Canaan Sueing - Tyler Junior College:
Another standout linebacker, is also joining Tyler Junior College. The 2024 7-5A DI Defensive MVP, D’Canaan was a dominant force for Tyler High, finishing the season with 131 tackles, five tackles for loss, five quarterback hurries, three fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles, one interception, and one sack. With his incredible stats, he earned First Team All-District honors in 2023 and Honorable Mention All-District in 2022. Tyler High Assistant Coach Derrick Choice describes D’Canaan as a hardworking player who is always eager to improve. His relentless drive and dedication have been key to his success, and Coach Choice believes D’Canaan’s work ethic will continue to fuel his progress at Tyler Junior College.
D’Crystian Sueing - Tyler Junior College:
A standout linebacker, is headed to Tyler Junior College to continue his football career. Sueing was a key figure for Tyler High’s defense in 2024, recording 75 tackles, nine tackles for loss, four quarterback hurries, and one forced fumble. His leadership was recognized with Second Team All-District (7-5A DI) honors. Coach Trey Lewis highlights Sueing’s dedication to both academics and athletics, noting his status as a three-year starter, team captain, and a top student who was named Student of the Month. Sueing’s talents and work ethic will serve him well as he transitions to Tyler Junior College, where he will further his education while playing at a high level of competition.
These athletes are staying in East Texas, choosing to continue their football careers at institutions close to home.
