DALLAS, Texas (TXAN 24) — Wipe Out Kids’ Cancer will celebrate its 45th Anniversary Gala on April 25 at the The Ritz-Carlton, Dallas, bringing together supporters, families, and survivors under the theme “Cancer Does NOT Define ME!”
The milestone event will raise funds for pediatric cancer research and expand programs supporting children and families facing the disease. The nonprofit, founded in 1980, is known for its Buddy Bag initiative—providing hospitalized children with comfort items, communication tools like iPads, and support resources for families navigating treatment.
Founder Cindy Brinker Simmons said the mission remains rooted in meeting families at their most difficult moments. Gala co-chair Karee Sampson joins her in leading the evening’s fundraising efforts.
Peter Cancro and his wife Tatiana will serve as honorary chairs. Cancro’s long-standing philanthropic work through Jersey Mike’s Subs has helped generate more than $143 million for charities nationwide, including millions supporting WOKC initiatives.
ESPN broadcaster Holly Rowe will emcee the gala. A five-time Emmy Award winner and cancer survivor, Rowe has become a national advocate for cancer research following her battle with Stage IV melanoma.
Organizers say the evening will highlight “WOKC Warriors”—children currently battling cancer—while raising critical funding for innovative treatments and care programs aimed at improving survival outcomes.
WOKC continues its mission of providing hope, comfort, and research funding to children and families across the country.
