COMMERCE, Texas (TXAN 24) — The East Texas A&M vs. Stephen F. Austin football game has been delayed due to lightning and severe weather in the area. Officials cleared the field before kickoff after multiple lightning strikes were detected within a 10-mile radius of the stadium.
According to game officials, play will not resume until at least 30 minutes have passed since the last detected lightning strike. Once conditions are deemed safe, fans will hear the all-clear signal, three short horn blasts, two seconds apart, and the yellow warning light will stop flashing.
Return-to-play announcements will also be shared through the public address system, the Lion Athletics app, and on KETR 88.9 FM.
Fans are encouraged to remain in their vehicles or take shelter inside the stadium concourse until the all-clear is given.
TXAN 24 News will continue to provide live weather and game updates as soon as officials announce a new kickoff time.
