UNITED STATES (TXAN 24) — The Trump administration announced the immediate withdrawal of about 700 federal immigration enforcement agents from Minnesota, scaling back part of a large deployment focused on Minneapolis and surrounding areas.

Border czar Tom Homan said the reduction reflects increased cooperation with state and local authorities that has allowed federal officials to focus on taking custody of eligible immigration targets from county jails.

Despite the drawdown, roughly 2,000 federal officers will remain deployed, and officials say broader immigration enforcement efforts under President Trump will continue.

The move follows criticism and protests tied to aggressive enforcement actions.
