EAST TEXAS (TXAN 24) -- The excitement in Palestine is building as the highly anticipated Thunderbird RC Speedway officially opened its doors on July 6, 2024, offering an adrenaline-pumping destination for remote control racing enthusiasts.
Located just outside the city of Palestine, the new track is quickly becoming East Texas' premier hub for high-speed RC racing, drawing drivers from all over the region.
Spanning over 170 feet of track, Thunderbird RC Speedway is designed with both amateur and professional racers in mind. The course features challenging corners and a variety of surface textures that are sure to push drivers’ skills and vehicle performance to the limit. It accommodates a wide range of RC vehicles, from electric-powered cars to nitro-powered buggies.
“We’ve put in a lot of effort to create a space that works for both newcomers and seasoned racers,” said Jay Black, the owner of Thunderbird RC Speedway. “Our goal is to build a community where people can come together, race, and share their love for the hobby.”
A Thrilling Racing Destination
Thunderbird RC Speedway isn’t just a place to race; it’s a venue designed to bring people together, whether they’re racing or spectating. The track is equipped with modern timing systems, spectator viewing areas, and plans for food trucks and local vendors during race days. It’s expected to become a key stop for competitive racing events, drawing RC racers from across East Texas.
Back in October 2024, Thunderbird RC Speedway saw over 185 entries at its first official event, and February looks just as promising—weather permitting, the outlook for future races is bright, according to Black.
Races, Tournaments, and Community Engagement
Thunderbird RC Speedway will be hosting regular races, tournaments, and community events throughout the year. Whether you’re a seasoned driver or someone just curious about RC racing, there will be something for everyone.
Black encourages newcomers to the sport to attend races, watch the action, and ask questions.
“If you're interested in getting started, just come out to the races, talk to the drivers, and we’ll be more than happy to help you learn how to get involved,” he said. “RC racing is all about community, and we want to help people find their way into this exciting hobby.”
A Bright Future for RC Racing in Palestine
Looking ahead, Thunderbird RC Speedway has big plans for the future, including expanded events, new race formats, and even opportunities for youth leagues. As the track continues to grow, it’s clear that Thunderbird RC Speedway will become a central part of Palestine’s motorsports scene.
With its mix of thrilling racing, community engagement, and top-tier facilities, Thunderbird RC Speedway is poised to be a game-changer for RC enthusiasts across East Texas.
