SAN ANTONIO, Texas (TXAN 24) — On Friday morning the UIL State Championships continued for Girls Basketball at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas with class 3A-D1, a match up between Shallowater and Hitchcock.

The second day tip-off with two teams that were ready to play from the jump. The game's pace kept the scoring low and close, with Hitchcock taking a slight edge as the first quarter came to a close.

The second quarter had a different opening however. The slight edge that Hitchcock managed grew to double digits as soon as the teams got back on the court. The score was 22-10 with 6:24 remaining in the half. Shallowater would knock down some timely three pointers to hang around in this game. By halftime the Hitchock lead was only single digits, 31-22.

Led by forward Teryl Jones' 12 points and 8 rebounds in the first half, Shallowater would have to find a way to contain her, if they were going to trim into the Hitchcock lead.

Hitchcock came out of the halftime break with all the momentum and pushed the lead back to double digits. Shallowater took a full timeout with 5:32 left in the third quarter to regroup as the scoreboard read 39-22.

The fourth quarter did not deviate from the story of the previous quarters and Hitchcock cruised to a state championship in its first appearance.
