LOS ANGELES, Calif. (TXAN 24) — Actors Chris Pang and Jesse Lee Soffer are praising the authenticity, cultural representation and unforgettable filming experience behind their latest series, which was filmed on location throughout Hong Kong.

Speaking with TXAN 24 News, both actors credited costume designer Vera Chow for helping define their characters through wardrobe choices that reflected personality and social status within the show’s world.

“She knows how to dress us to make us look good,” Pang said, noting Chow’s attention to detail and familiarity with the cast.

Filming in Hong Kong proved to be one of the production’s biggest strengths. Soffer, who spent part of his childhood there, described the experience as a homecoming, while Pang called the city a character of its own.

“We really show the duality of Hong Kong,” Pang said. “You see the luxury yachts, racetracks and exclusive locations, but also the local restaurants, alleyways and neighborhoods that make the city special.”

Both actors said preparing for their roles began long before cameras started rolling. Soffer focused on physical and emotional preparation for his character, while Pang embraced the challenge of portraying Andrew, a charismatic but unapologetically flawed personality.

Off-screen, the cast formed close bonds through shared meals, karaoke nights and exploring the city together, helping create chemistry that translated to the screen.

The actors also emphasized the importance of authentic representation. Pang said today’s audiences benefit from seeing Asian characters portrayed as complex individuals rather than stereotypes.

“Representation is visibility,” Pang said. “People can see all different types of Asians on screen and realize it’s okay to be who you are.”

When it comes to watching their own performances, both actors admitted to using each viewing as an opportunity to learn while also reflecting on the memories made during production.

Both agreed the experience of bringing the series to life in Hong Kong is something they will always cherish.
