DALLAS, Texas (TXAN 24) — As millions of fans attend matches across North America, security experts are warning travelers and event organizers to remain vigilant during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Healix, a global risk management firm, says concerns range from severe weather and transportation disruptions to cyber threats, public demonstrations, crowd surges, and crime around host venues.

The company advises fans to carry identification, avoid protests, remain aware of their surroundings, and allow additional travel time around matchdays due to increased security measures and traffic congestion.

Experts also highlighted risks associated with heat-related illnesses, particularly in southern host cities where summer temperatures can be extreme. Additional concerns include potential disruptions caused by tropical weather systems, wildfires, and infectious disease transmission linked to large-scale international travel.

Healix CEO James Henderson said major sporting events present unique challenges because large crowds, heightened emotions, and global attention can create opportunities for security incidents and infrastructure strain.

The advisory also recommends monitoring local weather alerts, staying informed about transportation changes, and avoiding attempts to photograph or interfere with law enforcement operations.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is expected to be the largest in tournament history, with matches hosted across multiple cities in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
