SAN ANTONIO, Texas (TXAN 24) - The Alamo isn’t just a mission—it’s the heart of Texas’ fight for independence. In 1836, about 200 Texian defenders, including names like Davy Crockett, James Bowie, and William B. Travis, stood against thousands of Mexican troops led by General Santa Anna.
The siege lasted 13 days, ending in a tragic defeat for the Texians. Yet the battle cry “Remember the Alamo!” became a rallying call that fueled victory at the Battle of San Jacinto weeks later.
While historians continue to debate details, the Alamo remains a symbol of sacrifice, courage, and the fierce Texan spirit. Visitors to San Antonio today can still walk the grounds, tour the church, and feel the weight of one of Texas' most iconic moments.
