Texas Leads Nation In Uninsured Women Workers, New Analysis Finds

DALLAS, Texas (TXAN 24) — Texas has the highest average percentage of uninsured women workers ages 18 to 64 in the nation, according to a four-year analysis examining health insurance coverage across all 50 states.

The analysis, provided by Beck & Beck Missouri Car Accident Lawyers, found that 21.08% of women workers in Texas were uninsured on average between 2021 and 2024.

Texas recorded an uninsured rate of 22.9% in 2021, followed by 20.9% in 2022, 20.3% in 2023 and 20.2% in 2024.

The rate remained above 20% throughout the four-year period.

Texas was followed by Georgia, where an average 15.23% of women workers were uninsured, and Oklahoma at 15.10%.

Other neighboring states ranked lower, including Arkansas at No. 17 with an average uninsured rate of 10.83% and Louisiana at No. 25 at 8.23%.

At the other end of the ranking, Massachusetts recorded the lowest four-year average at 2.68%.

The analysis found that Texas’ 2024 rate of 20.2% was nearly eight times Massachusetts’ 2.68% rate.

The figures focus specifically on women workers ages 18 to 64 and therefore do not represent the uninsured rate for all Texas women or the state’s entire population.

The analysis comes as access to health coverage remains a significant issue for working-age Texans, particularly in a state with a large population and substantial differences in access to employer-sponsored and other forms of insurance.
