Texas College President Dr. Dwight Fennell Announces Retirement

TYLER, Texas (TXAN 24) – Texas College President Dr. Dwight Fennell has officially announced his retirement during the Annual Meeting of the Board of Trustees. Dr. Fennell, who has served as president since August 2008, reflected on his tenure in a prepared statement, sharing both the joys and challenges of leading the institution.


Dr. Fennell joined Texas College in 2008 as Vice President for Academic Affairs before stepping into the presidency. His extensive career in higher education includes experience as a vice president for academic affairs, provost, and president at other institutions prior to his leadership at Texas College.


In his statement, Dr. Fennell described his time as president as an experience filled with “pleasure, humility, joy, and comfort,” while also acknowledging the challenges and responsibilities that came with the role. Though his official retirement date was not specified, his announcement marks a significant transition for Texas College as the Board of Trustees prepares for new leadership.
