DALLAS, Texas (TXAN 24) — Texas travelers planning spring getaways may want to brace for delays, as new data shows two of the state’s busiest airports rank among the most disrupted in the nation.
A study by international shipping company My Baggage places Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport as the second worst airport in the U.S. for spring travel disruptions, while George Bush Intercontinental Airport ranks seventh.
According to the report, more than 25% of spring flights at DFW are delayed, with average delays stretching nearly 94 minutes—the longest of any major U.S. airport analyzed. The airport also posted the highest cancellation rate among the top 10 at nearly 3%.
In Houston, more than 1 in 5 flights at IAH are delayed, with average delays approaching 83 minutes.
The rankings were based on federal transportation data from 2023 through 2025, analyzing delay rates, cancellations, and taxi times across the nation’s busiest airports.
Newark Liberty International Airport topped the list as the most delay-prone airport in the country.
Travel experts say spring’s heavy demand combined with weather variability and high traffic volumes contribute to widespread disruptions, especially at major hub airports like those in Texas.
For travelers, experts recommend arriving early, booking morning flights, and allowing extra connection time to avoid missed departures.
