DALLAS, Texas (TXAN 24) — A new 56-city national analysis from Besroi Roofing and Siding places four Texas metros inside the top 11 U.S. cities most exposed to attic heat damage, underscoring a statewide pattern of infrastructure strain driven by extreme summer temperatures.

Austin ranks 5th overall with an attic strain score of 55.5, followed closely by Dallas in 6th at 49.7, San Antonio in 7th at 47.6, and Houston in 11th at 34.3. No other state places multiple cities this high in the national ranking.

The study points to sustained exposure to extreme heat as the primary driver, with Texas metros recording long stretches of 90°F-plus days that push attic temperatures toward damaging levels for insulation, roofing materials, and HVAC systems. San Antonio, for example, sees more than 80 days above 90°F annually, while Austin experiences multiple days exceeding 100°F.

Nationally, desert cities still lead the list, with Phoenix ranking first, followed by Las Vegas and Tucson. However, the Texas concentration highlights a broader concern: widespread suburban growth combined with sustained heat exposure is accelerating long-term housing wear across the state.

The findings suggest higher energy consumption, faster roof degradation, and increased maintenance costs for Texas homeowners compared to most regions in the country.
