ARLINGTON, Texas — Defense dominated the second half of the UIL 4A Division I State Championship at AT&T Stadium as Stephenville held Kilgore scoreless and secured a 10–0 victory Friday December 19, 2025.
Third Quarter
Stephenville struck first coming out of halftime, opening the scoring on a touchdown drive capped by a score from #10 Adan Jergins, giving the Yellow Jackets a 7–0 lead.
Kilgore responded with a methodical drive, converting multiple third downs and pushing deep into Stephenville territory. However, the Bulldogs were unable to capitalize, as a field goal attempt by #82 Eddie Jimenez sailed wide, keeping Kilgore off the scoreboard.
Both defenses settled in as the quarter progressed. Stephenville’s offense stalled after a broken-up pass at the line of scrimmage by #7 Ja’Kalen Sheffield for Kilgore, forcing a punt that was downed inside the 10-yard line. Kilgore moved the ball again behind strong runs and completions, but penalties and a late sack by #12 Cooper Rudd and #7 Caleb Garland of Stephenville halted momentum. The Bulldogs punted it back, and the third quarter ended with Stephenville clinging to a 7–0 lead.
Fourth Quarter
Stephenville extended its lead early in the fourth quarter after a Kilgore sack by #6 David McGowan forced a long third down. The Yellow Jackets elected to kick on fourth down, and #13 Brighton DeVivo drilled a 41-yard field goal, making it 10–0.
Kilgore continued to fight, benefiting from consecutive pass interference penalties that moved the chains. A fumble recovery by #54 Jonathan Barron for Kilgore briefly kept hopes alive, but the drive stalled, resulting in a turnover on downs.
After another defensive stop and punt, Kilgore got the ball back with time remaining but threw a costly interception to #8 Willis Jackson of Stephenville, sealing the outcome. Stephenville leaned on #17 QB Trot Jordan to run out the clock as a roaring Yellow Jacket crowd filled AT&T Stadium with noise. Kneel-downs ended the game and confirmed the championship win.
Final
Stephenville’s defense proved to be the difference, pitching a shutout and forcing key stops when it mattered most.
Final Score: Stephenville 10, Kilgore 0
Stephenville captures the UIL 4A Division I State Championship, while Kilgore’s season ends just short of a title after a hard-fought defensive battle on Texas football’s biggest stage.
