RUSK, Texas (TXAN 24) — The Rusk Eagles finally have their first win of the season — and it came in dramatic fashion under the bright (eventually) Friday night lights.

After a 1.5-hour delay caused by a power issue on the visitor side of the stadium, Rusk and Brownsboro decided the show must go on.

While crews worked to restore lighting, both school bands and drill teams kept the crowd entertained, turning what could’ve been a frustrating wait into a spirited community showcase.

Kickoff finally came at 9 p.m., and from the first whistle, Rusk looked determined to make the most of the late start. The Eagles rang off three straight scores on the Brownsboro Bears to start off the night, but the visiting team was not willing to back down. But when it mattered most, Rusk stood tall in the fourth quarter to preserve a 28–21 victory.

The win couldn’t have come at a better time. It was Pink Out Night at Eagle Stadium, with fans dressed in pink to raise awareness for breast cancer. The atmosphere, despite the delay, was electric from start to finish.

For Rusk, it’s not just a win in the win column; it’s the first win under the Eagles new head coach as well.
