Rockwall Man Celebrates 103rd Birthday with a Life of Service, Faith and Routine

ROCKWALL, Texas (TXAN 24) — A Rockwall resident is celebrating a remarkable milestone as David Johnson turned 103 years old yesterday, marking more than a century of life filled with family, faith and service.

Johnson, who now lives with his daughter and family in Rockwall, spent much of his career as a superintendent overseeing tea estates in Sri Lanka before moving to Texas in 1996 following the passing of his wife.

Over the years, he developed a love for music—especially the songs of Jim Reeves—and enjoyed traveling, riding motorcycles and singing, a passion he continues today. He also shared his faith through ministry work alongside his sister, Lilly, and continues to participate in telephone ministry.

Johnson is the patriarch of a growing family that includes five children, 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

When asked about the secret to reaching 103, his answer is simple: maintaining a structured daily routine regardless of the weather, taking daily walks and staying connected to others through ministry.

Having lived through World War II and witnessed decades of global change, Johnson’s life spans generations of history while remaining rooted in consistent habits and a commitment to serving others.

Family members say they are grateful to celebrate the milestone together as Johnson reaches his 103rd birthday, honoring a lifetime defined by perseverance, faith and family.
