HOUSTON, Texas (TXAN 24) – When it comes to producing NFL talent, no state does it better than Texas.
A new study by sports data site Lineups analyzed over 2,800 current NFL player profiles and ranked Texas as the top state for pro football stars, with 304 players born in the Lone Star State. Houston alone leads all U.S. cities with 37 current players — more than any other city — including standouts like Buffalo Bills DT Ed Oliver and Texans safety Jalen Pitre.
Trailing closely behind Texas are Florida (287 players) and California (278), while Georgia and North Carolina round out the top five.
The data underscores Texas’ deep football roots and high school-to-NFL pipeline. Among cities, Houston’s dominance is followed by Detroit (36), Miami (32), and Fort Lauderdale (28).
A spokesperson from Lineups said, “The data highlights Texas as a consistent pipeline of elite football talent… It’s clear that Texas doesn’t just love football – it raises the athletes who shape the game.”
As the 2025 NFL season approaches, one thing is certain — the Texas football factory is still wide open for business.
