EL PASO, Texas (TXAN 24) — The Round Rock Express erupted for a season-high 23 runs Wednesday afternoon, overpowering the El Paso Chihuahuas 23-7 at Southwest University Ballpark to snap a five-game losing streak.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning and trailing 7-6 after two, Round Rock’s offense took over in one of the wildest slugfests of the Triple-A season. Shortstop Cam Cauley delivered the turning point with his first career grand slam during a six-run second inning, helping the Express regain momentum early.
Cauley finished a double shy of the cycle, reaching base six times while posting four hits, four RBI and five runs scored. The explosive outing continued in the later innings as Round Rock added three runs in the sixth, three more in the seventh and a massive nine-run ninth inning to put the game away.
Despite starter Jose Corniell surrendering seven earned runs in just 1.2 innings, the Express bullpen dominated the rest of the way. Marc Church, Aidan Anderson, Robby Ahlstrom, Michel Otañez and Mason Thompson combined for 7.1 scoreless innings while allowing only two hits.
The 23 runs marked Round Rock’s highest offensive output since scoring 26 runs in 2019 and improved the club to 15-6 this season when scoring more than five runs.
