Rain May Finally Return to North Texas After Weeks of Heat and Dry Weather

FORT WORTH, Texas (TXAN 24) — North Texas could finally see some rain this week, but forecasters say residents should keep expectations in check.

The National Weather Service in Fort Worth says portions of North and Central Texas have only a 10% to 20% chance of rain through Wednesday, with most areas expected to remain dry.

Storm chances increase Thursday and Friday afternoon, but the chances remain relatively low.

The potential rainfall comes as North Texas continues to deal with intense late-summer heat. Afternoon temperatures are expected to remain in the upper 90s to around 103 degrees across portions of the region.

For Dallas-Fort Worth, even isolated thunderstorms could provide temporary relief from the heat and offer some much-needed rainfall to areas that have remained dry.

However, forecasters do not currently expect widespread rainfall capable of ending the region’s broader dry pattern.

Some communities could receive measurable rain while others just a few miles away see nothing.

Residents should also remember that any thunderstorms that develop could bring dangerous lightning, gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall.

After the potential Thursday and Friday storms, another stretch of hot and mostly dry weather is expected to return.

For North Texans hoping for a break from the heat, the message is simple: rain is possible, but it is far from guaranteed.
