ROUND ROCK, Texas (TXAN 24) – The Overton Mustangs are just one win away from history.

This morning, the Mustangs will take the field at Dell Diamond in Round Rock for their first-ever appearance in the UIL Class 2A Division II State Baseball Championship. First pitch is scheduled for 9 a.m. against the defending state champions, the Collinsville Pirates.

Overton, led by head coach Chris Cook, enters the title game with an impressive 31-8 record. The Mustangs have clawed their way through a tough playoff stretch, knocking off LaPoynor, Simms Bowie, Gary, and Beckville before defeating Burton in a gritty three-game semifinal series.

This is Overton’s third trip to the state tournament, with previous appearances in 2009 and 2011, but it marks the school’s first time reaching the championship game.

The Mustangs will face a tough test against Collinsville, who comes in 31-4 and riding a wave of dominance from an undefeated district run. The Pirates are aiming for back-to-back state titles.

Tickets for the game are $16 for a single-day pass, and fans can also watch live on the NFHS Network (subscription required) or tune in via KWRD 1470 AM / 98.5 FM.

With history on the line, the Overton Mustangs are ready to leave it all on the diamond.
