Officer Resigns After Accusing Police Chief — Timeline Raises Questions, Possible Political Setup?

RUSK, Texas (TXAN 24) — A developing story out of Cherokee County is raising serious concerns about internal politics within local law enforcement.

Officer Beck has officially resigned after making serious allegations against the police chief — accusations that led to a month-long investigation. Despite the gravity of her claims, the chief was ultimately cleared and reinstated without disciplinary action. Beck resigned immediately following his return.

The timing has sparked speculation about a possible setup. Beck is currently at the center of a recent federal lawsuit — previously reported on by TXAN 24 News — which adds further scrutiny to her role in the department and the motives behind her allegations.

It is hard for one not to ponder if Beck may have been influenced by members of the sheriff’s department, including high-ranking officials.

These same individuals could have had an interest in weakening the police chief, who had reportedly urged the Cherokee County District Attorney to investigate alleged corruption within the sheriff’s office.

The timeline of events — from the chief’s push for accountability to the filing of accusations and his eventual reinstatement — is raising alarms for those closely following the situation.

TXAN 24 News has submitted public records requests for internal communications, resignation letters, and investigative findings.

As new information surfaces, this story may point to a deeper rift within Cherokee County law enforcement.
