TYLER, Texas (TXAN 24) — Every Thursday, TXAN partners with Nicholas Pet Haven to shine a light on one incredible animal in search of a forever home. This week, meet Cranjis, a resilient Mountain Cur mix who’s overcome adversity and is now shining with health, hope, and heart.

Cranjis’s Story: A Cough That Could Have Cost Him Everything
Cranjis, 7 years young, came to Nicholas Pet Haven after being tagged from Smith County Animal Control. He arrived with a persistent cough that foreshadowed a life far too short if left untreated. Knowing his odds, Nicholas Pet Haven stepped in, because staying there wasn’t an option.
When he tested heartworm-positive, the rescue worked with their trusted vet to begin a costly, but life saving quick kill treatment. Today, Cranjis is on the path to remission, breathing easier and showing off the big smile that greets staff and volunteers every single morning.
Who Cranjis Is Today
Cranjis is the very definition of a good boy. He greets everyone with a big, joyful grin, wags his tail like it’s powered by pure sunshine, and spreads cheer wherever he goes.
Dog friendly: He plays well with others and doesn’t bat an eye at cats.
Leash pro: Walks like a dream, calm, steady, obedient.
People pleaser: Loves everyone, and everyone loves him right back.
Ideal for families: Calm, affectionate, and easygoing.

Why Cranjis Deserves a Second Chance
Looking for a companion who’s overcome his past and is ready for a peaceful, loving home? Cranjis is healthy, happy, and has a heart full of love to give. He’s that loyal friend who’ll follow your smile, mirror your calm, and reward you with endless affection.
