LUFKIN, Texas (TXAN 24) — Lufkin Police detectives are investigating a late-night shooting that left multiple homes and vehicles damaged Tuesday in the 200 block of Finley Street.
Around 9:45 p.m., officers responded to several 911 calls reporting gunfire in the area. When police arrived, they found a group of residents gathered outside and began speaking with witnesses to determine what happened.
According to initial findings, an argument over a parking space and loud music after hours escalated into gunfire between individuals.
Witnesses told investigators the dispute had been an ongoing issue in the neighborhood.
Authorities say suspects arrived in a vehicle before shots were fired toward an apartment.
One man believed to be involved was detained at the scene for questioning, though no arrests have been made at this time. Other individuals suspected in the shooting had already fled before officers arrived.
Investigators located multiple bullet holes on the exterior of a residence tied to one of the individuals involved. Evidence also suggests gunfire may have come from inside that same apartment. Several shell casings were recovered from the roadway and nearby grass.
Two parked vehicles and a nearby apartment window were also struck by gunfire. Police additionally recovered an AR-15, identified as one of the weapons used in the incident, along with other firearms found inside an apartment.
Officers conducted a thorough search of the area and confirmed no injuries were reported. The investigation remains active as detectives continue working to identify and locate the remaining suspects.
