TYLER, Texas (TXAN 24) — A new study ranks Texas as one of the top 10 states most eager to embrace driverless taxi technology.

Conducted by online HR platform Techr, the study analyzed 33 search terms related to autonomous ride-hailing — including “Waymo car,” “Tesla robotaxi,” “robotaxi release date,” and more — across all 50 states. Texas logged 151 average monthly searches per 100,000 residents, beating the national average by over 31%.

With a population of 31.8 million, the Lone Star State saw more than 48,000 total searches over the past 12 months. Top trending terms include:

  • “Waymo invite code”

  • “Tesla robotaxi day”

  • “Robotaxi price”

A Techr spokesperson noted that Texas has become a “hotspot for innovation,” pointing to Waymo testing and favorable regulations. “Search trends show Texans aren’t just curious — they’re anticipating autonomous taxis hitting local roads.”

While the technology may reduce traditional driving jobs, the study also points to growth in new roles like vehicle maintenance, safety oversight, and remote operations.
