HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (TXAN 24) — The family of Brianna Griffith is demanding justice after the 2022 shooting death of the young African-American woman ended with the suspect walking free.

According to family members, Brianna was shot and killed by Xavier Drake, who later admitted in his own words that he also kicked and stomped her after she was down because he was “mad.” Drake has claimed the shooting was in self-defense, alleging that Brianna was attempting to burglarize his home and had stolen clothes.

The fatal incident unfolded in a parking lot on February 5, 2022. What happened next has left the community stunned: despite the violent nature of the attack described by witnesses, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office ultimately dropped the charges.

Civil rights activist Quanell X sat down exclusively with Brianna’s aunt and cousin, who shared emotional and painful details of the case. They described not only the loss of Brianna, but also their disbelief at the justice system’s decision.

The case is now igniting outrage across social media, with many calling it a complete failure of the legal system.
