JACKSONVILLE, Texas (TXAN 24) — The New York Jets are making waves as they search for their next head coach, and among the candidates being interviewed is none other than Josh McCown, a proud native of East Texas. This news was confirmed by ESPN insider Adam Schefter during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show earlier today.

McCown, born and raised in Jacksonville, Texas, has deep roots in East Texas football. A former quarterback for Jacksonville High School, McCown excelled in the East Texas gridiron scene before taking his talents to Sam Houston State University, where he shined as a collegiate quarterback. His professional career spanned nearly two decades, as McCown played for several NFL teams, including the Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, and New York Jets, among others.

Now, McCown’s name is making headlines again, not for his on-field heroics, but as a candidate for one of the NFL’s most coveted coaching positions. Despite lacking head coaching experience at the NFL level, McCown has long been regarded as a “coach on the field” during his playing days. His leadership, football IQ, and ability to connect with players make him an intriguing option for a team looking to revitalize its program.

For East Texas, McCown’s potential rise to an NFL head coaching position represents another proud moment in the region’s storied football legacy. Known for producing exceptional talent, from high school athletes to NFL stars, East Texas has cemented itself as a hotbed for football excellence.

Should McCown secure the job, he will join the growing list of East Texans making significant contributions to the NFL, both on and off the field. For the Jets, hiring McCown would bring in someone who understands the culture of their organization, having played for the team in 2017 and 2018.

As the Jets continue their interview process, East Texans will no doubt be cheering for one of their own. TXAN 24 News will keep you updated on McCown’s journey and what it means for East Texas football.
