HOUSTON, Texas (TXAN 24) — A multi-unit law enforcement operation led by the Houston Police Department shut down an alleged illegal gambling operation on May 27, resulting in arrests and the seizure of more than $350,000 in cash.
According to officials, HPD’s Vice Division, SWAT, and Crime Suppression Teams from the Midwest, Southeast, and Northeast divisions executed a coordinated search warrant at a business located at 9371 Richmond Avenue. Investigators say the operation had been under surveillance prior to the raid as part of an ongoing effort to disrupt illegal gambling activity in the area.
Three individuals were taken into custody and charged with gambling promotion. Authorities also recovered $351,923 in cash believed to be connected to the illegal operation. In addition to the arrests, inspectors issued citations tied to building code, fire code, and health violations discovered during the search.
Officials said the enforcement action was part of a broader strategy involving neighborhood partnerships and targeted policing aimed at reducing criminal activity that affects public safety and quality of life in Houston communities.
HPD did not immediately release the identities of those arrested, and the investigation remains ongoing. Additional charges or enforcement actions have not been ruled out as evidence continues to be reviewed.
Authorities are encouraging residents to report suspected illegal gambling or related activity as part of continued efforts to identify and shut down unlicensed operations across the city.
