Dallas Wings fans in top 8 for WNBA trash-talk

DALLAS, Texas (TXAN 24) — WNBA rivalries are getting louder both on the court and across social media, and a new fan study is putting some of the league’s most recognizable names at the center of the conversation.

A survey of 2,000 WNBA fans examined trash-talking habits across the league, including how often fans engage in rival banter, whether they intentionally provoke opposing fans and how willing they are to defend their favorite players.

The Dallas Wings were not identified as the league’s top trash-talking fanbase, but the study highlights a broader WNBA environment where fan rivalries increasingly extend beyond game nights.

Among the players generating the most attention are Sophie Cunningham, Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese.

Angel Reese was identified as the player most frequently targeted by trash talk in the survey, with 44% of respondents naming her. Clark followed at 18%, while Cunningham received 9%.

Clark, however, was perceived as receiving the most overall trash talk, with 42% of respondents selecting her. Reese followed at 32%.

The findings come as the WNBA continues to build one of the most passionate—and sometimes confrontational—fan cultures in professional sports.

For the Wings, that intensity adds another layer to a franchise competing for attention in one of the league’s fastest-growing markets.

As Dallas continues to develop its identity and fanbase, the Wings are increasingly part of a league where the conversation doesn’t stop when the final buzzer sounds. Social media, rivalries and player personalities have become part of the WNBA experience—and Dallas is right in the middle of it.
